The Fab Furniture Flippin' July Contest™ with OFMP Farmhouse Fun

Welcome to my entry for The Fab Furniture Flippin' July Contest™ themed "farmhouse fun" sponsored by the Old Fashioned Milk Paint company. This naturally safe paint has been around for very long time and with today's focus being on environmental and green, this paint is the perfect choice for beginners and advance painters alike.

I first tried this paint about a year ago and did a series of pieces in their buttermilk color. It was a lovely creamy color that looked great on the antique pieces I chose to paint. When The Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest™ had OFMP sponsor another contest I could not pass up the chance to try it again.

This time I chose colors from their palette sea green and federal blue. The antique dresser I scored screams old farmhouse and what did old farm house pieces go thru? tons of color changes and most likely in milk paint as it was readily used back then.

like in most old pieces there are paint drips and dings but this will only enhance the farm house rustic characteristics
the dresser got a good scrub with TSP, soap and water after the top was sanded down to reveal the great top

the gorgeous solid wood top need to stay so I chose a dark walnut stain with 3 coats of hand rubbed poly
then the painting fun part began

I used extra bond to make the federal blue milk paint really stick over the old stain
then applied but it seems I made it to thin and it ended up more like glaze shown below
wet and dry

so for the drawers I made the batch thicker and it worked much better
the second color was a custom creation mixing sea green, federal blue and some snow white
and it made this pretty color
here it is next to the dark blue on drawers and base

Once dry I sanded with 120 grit paper which revealed small amounts of the darker federal blue and some of the wood then I added a coat of Daddy Van's clear wax to seal it all up.
the original handles needed a relove too so they were spray painted a matte brown
and to give dimension, a black metallic cream was added, perfect. (2 on right still matte to show difference it makes to add the cream)

Here is it all put back together.

the ancient drawer needed a fresh new pop of color via this removable liner

I am a wood lover and keep it where I can, check out this pretty grain
